Inside the Montréal Studio: Molten 18k Gold, Cold Sea Gems & Artisan Metallurgy

Step through the historic iron gates of our Old Montréal studio on a crisp autumn morning, and the first sensation is one of focused tranquility: the gentle hum of the polishing lathe, the sharp scent of jewelers’ rouge, and the warm gleam of molten 18-karat gold pooling in ceramic crucibles.

The Dialogue Between Metal & Organic Form

In conventional mass-market jewelry, settings are produced by the thousands from standardized CAD models. A round stone is stamped into an identical four-prong basket. With baroque pearls, however, this industrial shortcut is physically impossible.

Because every baroque pearl has a singular undulating topography, the setting must be hand-built around the pearl—never the other way around. Our artisans spend hours studying the natural resting axis of each pearl, testing how it catches directional light, and shaping custom molten gold bezels that cradle the organic nacre like water flowing around river stone.

“Our goldsmiths do not force geometry onto nature. We listen to the pearl’s silhouette and sculpt the gold to follow its lead.”

Molten Gold Dipping: The Signature iBijoux Technique

One of the hallmark visual signatures of iBijoux is our molten gold-dipped edge. Seen on our popular Biwa slider bracelets and statement rings, this technique involves capping the organic tip of an elongated baroque stick pearl in rich 14k or 18k yellow gold.

This contrast between the cool, iridescent white glow of solid nacre and the warm, buttery density of high-karat gold creates an architectural tension that elevates the organic gem into modern sculptural fine jewelry. It bridges ancient oceanic beauty with contemporary Montréal design sensibility.

Heirloom Finishing in Our Keepsake Box

Before any piece leaves our atelier to find its new home in Canada or across the United States, it undergoes a rigorous final inspection under 10x gemological magnification. It is then hand-polished, placed in our signature navy velvet keepsake box with a certificate of authenticity, and sealed with our studio ribbon.
